A Brief History of Picklebet
Picklebet was born in 2020 after Skrilla rebranded. Launched in 2017, that particular site was an esports-focused betting platform. But after changing its name, traditional sports betting markets were added in 2021, followed by thoroughbred and greyhound racing in 2022.
Its parent company is Puntaa Pty Ltd, which was founded by Nick Heaney and brothers Damon and Jordan Oudejans. This business is licensed and regulated by the Northern Territory Racing and Wagering Commission.
Is Picklebet a Trustworthy Betting Site?
Picklebet is certainly trustworthy, yes. It may not be the biggest bookie in Australia, but it’s reliable and known to pay in a timely manner. Regulated by the NTRWC, the site also employs 2048-bit encryption to protect your sensitive data.
At the time of writing, Picklebet scores a miserable 1.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot. However, with just 43 reviews, many of which appear to be players misunderstanding AML and verification requirements, you shouldn’t take it too seriously.
We’ve never experienced anything but great customer service and hassle-free withdrawals.
Picklebet Online Betting Platform Review
There aren’t quite as many sports available at Picklebet as other top Aussie bookies, but you’ll still find more than 20. Among these is a strong selection of international horse races, plus harness and greyhound racing.
Picklebet was originally an esports betting platform, so it’s no surprise the collection of Counter-Strike, Valorant and Dota 2 markets is among the best in Australia. When writing this review, there were ten different esports to choose from, more than any bookie in the country.
Modern Features
Esports aside, Picklebet has every modern feature you’d associate with the best new betting sites down under. This includes standard and same game multis, with over 450 markets available to choose from with the latter. Same race multis are also available.
Early cashout is an option, both full and partial, and you can live stream most esports – but sadly nothing else. That’s standard at most Aussie bookies these days, anyway.
Disappointing Odds
The odds are probably the most disappointing thing we found while writing this Picklebet betting site review. This is a bookmaker with plenty of positives, but we have to be honest about the pricing – outside of esports betting, the odds just aren’t that competitive.
When looking at traditional sports, not once did we find Picklebet among the market leaders. NRL matches are priced to 111% or 112%, which is a big cut for the bookmaker – the Neds betting site, for instance, bets to just 106%.
It’s a familiar tale across the board, too, with AFL games priced to 111% and international cricket odds set at 110%. The soccer odds are among the worst in the country, with margins of 15% on most top-level games. This sometimes drops to 13.5% when elite teams are involved.
Payment Methods at Picklebet
The choice of deposit and withdrawal methods at Picklebet is fairly limited, as you’ll see in the table below. That said, the most important options are present, and they’re all secure and reliable.
| Payment Method | Deposit | Withdrawal |
| Debit Card | ✅ | ❌ |
| PayID | ✅ | ❌ |
| Apple Pay | ✅ | ❌ |
| Bank Transfer | ❌ | ✅ |
Deposit as little as $10, regardless of your chosen method. Unusually, there’s no minimum withdrawal limit, and we’ve had payouts of less than $5 processed in the past.
The Picklebet terms and conditions suggest allowing up to five days to process your bank account withdrawal. However, in reality, you’re unlikely to wait longer than 48 hours. Payout requests are handled seven days a week, though only between 11am and 7pm.
Is There a Picklebet Mobile App?
The Picklebet sports betting app is perhaps the best element of this Australian bookmaker. It looks pretty slick, whether you’re using the iOS or Android version, and it’s more user-friendly than the desktop site.
App Store users rate it highly – the iOS app currently has a 4.6* rating from over 2,500 reviews. Its Android counterpart isn’t bad either, scoring 3.9* from more than 50,000 downloads.
Picklebet Promo Codes
Sadly, there isn’t a welcome bonus for new players, because of Australia’s strict gambling marketing regulations. Despite this, if you use the Picklebet referral code BSA500 when registering, you’ll see several promotions for existing players upon logging into your account.
Customer Support at Picklebet
We can’t finish our Picklebet site review without discussing the support team. We spoke to “Ted” during this test, who seemed pretty laid back – in a good way! He was quick to answer our questions, but friendly with it.
Before getting to an agent, you must first deal with Pickle Bot, a fairly generic chatbot that’s nothing more than a glorified FAQ. Bypass it immediately by asking to speak with a human.
Be aware that live chat support is only offered between 7am and 11pm, and there’s no telephone option. You can email support@picklebet.com, but you won’t receive a reply if it’s outside of those hours.
How to Create a Picklebet Account
Here’s how to create your Picklebet account:
- Head to Picklebet.com and hit the green “Sign Up” button
- Supply your email, birth date and full name, then set a password
- After pressing “Continue”, provide your address in Australia
- Enter a display name and telephone number in step three
- Check the box marked “I have an affiliate code” and type BSA500
- Finally, read and agree to the Ts &Cs before tapping “Done”
Your new Picklebet account will open right away, providing you pass the automated identity verification check. If not, you’ll have to submit two forms of ID before progressing. Only three are valid – your passport, drivers licensed and Medicare card.
Picklebet – Final Verdict
This is a bookmaker with lots of promise, but it’s not quite among the elite just yet. All the features you’d expect of an online betting site are present, but we’d just like to see Picklebet push things a little further.
That’s something they’ve done with their excellent iOS app, but not quite with the Android equivalent. The customer support team is excellent, but they’re not available 24/7. Payouts are processed reliably, but not as fast as other brands, and with only one withdrawal option.
The esports odds product is one of Australia’s best, with competitive odds and live in-platform streaming of events. However, the prices for AFL and NRL games are fairly uncompetitive.
Picklebet is best suited to hardcore esports lovers who occasionally dip into other sports. It’s also great for beginners, due to the simple, user-friendly interface, and those seeking long-term loyalty rewards.
