THE BEST BETTING AGENCIES: OUR TOP 12 RATED BETTING SITES
12. WinnersBet
Suitable For: Punters looking for a change
1. PlayUp
Since launching in 2019 PlayUp has gone from strength to strength in the Australian market so much so they’re now Australia’s best betting site in our opinion. The result of a merger between TopBetta, ClassicBet and MadBookie; PlayUp is making a name for itself amongst Aussie punters thanks to their great fixed odds! If fantasy leagues are your thing, PlayUp is also home to Draftstars – Australia’s biggest daily fantasy site.
Unlike some of the other big betting sites, PlayUp is 100% Australian owned and operated – so if supporting Aussie businesses is something you’re big on, PlayUp is the betting site for you.
For added peace of mind, PlayUp is also an approved betting provider of the AFL, NRL, Football Federation of Australia, Tennis Australia, Cricket Australia and PGA Australia.
PlayUp Website Experience
The first thing we noticed when using the PlayUp website was just how fast pages are to load as you navigate through the site – especially handy if you’re rushing to get on an upcoming race. The layout is similar to other betting sites, and you’ll find links to all the most popular betting markets prominently displayed without needing to scroll.
PlayUp Mobile Site Experience
It’s on mobile devices that PlayUp really shines – their mobile site & app are very intuitive to use, and unbelievably fast to load. Similar to Neds & Ladbrokes, PlayUp employs a bottom navigation menu for quick access to racing, sports, your account and betslip.

2. Betr
Masterminded by Matthew Tripp, who previously headed up Sportsbet & BetEasy, Betr has some serious financial backing from NewsCorp, Tekkorp Capital & BetMakers Technology Group. If Tripp’s form with Sportsbet & BetEasy is anything to go by – Betr will fast become one of the biggest betting agencies down under.
Betr Website Experience
Built on the familiar Betmakers platform, there isn’t anything immediately special about the Betr website. However, given the familiarity of the layout both novice and experienced punters should quickly be able to find their chosen markets and place a bet. We can easily forgive a fairly basic website given the strength of their coverage and odds across both local and international horse racing events. We were pleasantly surprised at the amount of in game markets available across NBA, AFL and NRL matches for such a young bookmaker and their Tips & Stats section is a gold mine of insights for a wide range of sports.
Betr App Experience
Whilst others have found the Betr app ‘slow and clunky’ to use – we found it compared well in both speed and usability to the likes of other top betting agencies. Being on the Betmakers platform, everything is well laid out and easy to navigate and we had no issues placing a (losing) bet or two.

3. Colossalbet
Another relatively new betting site, having only launched in early 2021, Colossalbet positions themselves a niche bookmaker catering to premium Australian wagering clients. Customer service options include live chat and phone support from 8am to 9pm 7 days a week.
Colossalbet’s local thoroughbred odds were found to be quite competitive with the larger betting sites at the time of review and you’ll also find all your favourite sports markets including AFL, Rugby, Basketball, Soccer and more.
Understandably, signing up with a slightly lesser known betting site can be cause for hesitation, however rest assured that ColossalBet are an approved wagering partner of Racing NSW, Racing Queensland, Tasracing, Racing Victoria and Racing & Wagering Western Australia – in addition to the NRL, AFL & Football Federation of Australia. They also hold the required guarantee to protect your funds through the NSW Bookmakers Cooperative.
Overall a fast up and coming contender for one of Australia’s top betting sites and definitely worth a look for serious punters.

4. Picklebet
Based out of sunny Brisbane, Picklebet is a fast growing betting site who offers Australia’s best betting experience on esports betting (think Call of Duty, League of Legends, Dota 2 etc).
Beyond their market leading esports offering, Picklebet has been working hard on their real world sporting markets – now offering an impressive range of same game multi options across popular Aussie sports like AFL, NRL and more.
With horse racing being noticeably absent in previous years, Picklebet were pigeonholed as a E-Sports specialist. However you’ll now find an impressive range of local and international thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing markets available to punt on.
At the time of review we found Picklebet’s odds across racing and sports markets to be highly competitive.
With the advancements into real world sports & racing – and a super slick website and app experience – Pickletbet are fast becoming a genuine alternative to the larger corporate bookmakers.

5. Neds
Neds was launched in Australia in 2017 and has quickly established themselves as one of the most popular betting sites in Australia. Neds is heavily geared towards horse racing with plenty of betting options and in depth form guides – however you’ll also find over 20 local & international sports markets to have a bet on, including Australian staples like AFL, NRL & cricket and more.
In 2018, Neds was acquired by global gambling giant Entain (who also own Ladbrokes amongst other brands) however like Sportsbet, their operations remain here in Australia ensuring a highly relevant and engaging betting experience for Aussies punters.
Neds Website Experience
The Neds website offers a slick betting experience with an uncluttered homepage lending itself to both inexperienced & seasoned punters alike. As mentioned, horse racing features prominently with a little scrolling / clicking required to see upcoming sports markets. ‘Filter Form’ is a handy feature in the main menu which allows users to find horses, dogs or trotters based on previous form criteria such as ‘won last start’, ‘won on track condition’, ‘win %, ‘career prize money’, ‘jockey win %’ and many more. This is a great feature for punters who don’t want to read through endless form guides to pick their winners.
Neds App Experience
The app & mobile version of the Neds website offer, in our opinion, a much improved betting site experience. Unlike the desktop version, you can easily toggle between upcoming racing & sports markets. The app also does a better job of showing a wider variety of upcoming sporting events by category making it easier to browse betting options rather than just showing the next 4 upcoming events – which can sometimes be of little interest to most Aussie punters (unless you’re heavily into Russian table tennis).
Neds
Neds
A slick, fast and easy to use Australian betting site. Definitely worth signing up for especially if you’re a horse racing enthusiast.
Pros
- Fast & easy to use
Cons
- Not as many sports markets as some of the others

6. Ladbrokes
Whilst Ladbrokes has been an established global brand for over 120 years, Ladbrokes Australia was only launched in 2013. However, thanks to their value packed promotions and comprehensive betting experience, Ladbrokes have quickly established themselves as one of the most popular betting sites in Australia.
Like Sportsbet & Neds, Ladbrokes is internationally owned (by Entain) – however operations remain locally here in Australia.
Ladbrokes looks after inexperienced punters with clear ‘How To’ guides located in the top menu which explain the basics of betting features and tools so you can get up to speed before you bet. Neds also does a good job of this which is not surprising considering their stablemates under Entain.
Ladbrokes Website Experience
The Ladbrokes site also features a clean & easy to navigate homepage design with upcoming horse racing being the prominent feature. Aside from next top jump racing markets, you’ll also find quick links to all the most popular sports immediately visible making it easy to find your game of choice. Ladbrokes also features a ‘Filter Form’ option (albeit called Easy Form) to easily find some value. This is identical to Neds functionality showing how closely related the two betting sites are.
Ladbrokes App Experience
The Ladbrokes app & mobile site experience feels very similar to Neds however for some punters may not be as intuitive to navigate. Both move away from the traditional ‘hamburger’ 3 bar type menu at the top of the screen that you’ll find on other Australian betting sites, instead using a menu bar at the bottom of the screen to display 4 quick links including ‘Next Up’, ‘Racing’ ‘Sports’, ‘Notifications’ and a link to their full menu. Once you’re accustomed to this though, it’s a great feature that saves you from having to stretch with your thumb on larger devices.
Ladbrokes
Ladbrokes
Easy to navigate on all devices, great range of betting promos and consistently good odds. One of the best betting sites in Australia.
Pros
- Plenty of promotions
- Great form guides & insights
- 24/7 customer support
Cons
- Limited live streaming compared to others

Ladbrokes Quick Facts
- Whilst Ladbrokes has a local headquarters in Bowen Hills, Brisbane it is internationally owned by Entain.
- After having used both, we prefer Ladbrokes over SportsBet. We found Ladbrokes had slightly better odds on some race meetings and their customer support was slightly more responsive.

7. Unibet
Unibet is a great allrounder betting site catering to a wide range of sports including great coverage of local and international horse racing, NRL, AFL, NBA, EPL, A-League and plenty more. Unibet launched in Australia over 10 years ago with the rebrand of Betchoice and has amassed a large number of loyal Aussie punters since thanks to their easy to use betting platform, strong odds and slick IOS and Android apps.
Unibet Website Experience
The Unibet betting experience on desktop / laptop devices is unlike many of the other Aussie betting sites – making full use of the screen width and giving sports and racing equal standing.
The large left hand navigation makes finding your desired race or sporting event quick and easy with the bet slip pop up allowing for more visible screen real estate meaning you don’t have to scroll as far as some of the more traditional 3 panel betting website designs.
Unibet also offers a strong range of live streaming across major sports and racing with live betting via phone available to comply with Australia legislation.
Unibet Mobile Betting Experience
We found the Unibet mobile experience to be mostly intuitive and easy to use. It’s not initially clear to the user that different sports can be found by horizontally scrolling across the top 5 icons, however once you’re aware of this feature, navigating to your selected sport is quite quick and straightforward. There’s also a handy A-Z menu if you’re looking to place a bet on one of the less popular sports in Australia.
Racing enthusiasts will find the mobile navigation very straight forward.
The page load times on mobile devices was found to be not as fast as some of the other leading Australian betting sites at the time of writing, however its more than serviceable and can be forgiven given their strong odds across major sports and live streaming coverage.

8. Bet365
Bet365 offers a comprehensive betting site experience with a huge range of markets on offer. Bet365 launched in Australia in 2012 and has gained a strong following down under thanks to their excellent live streaming, stat tracking and generous features and offers.. Enjoyed by over 50 million customers around the world, Bet365 consistently offers great odds and their multi bet builder is by far one of the best on the market.
Bet365 Website Experience
At first glance, the Bet365 website can be a little overwhelming with quite a large range of markets covering most of the screen. However, after a short adjustment period, you’ll quickly become accustomed to the design and be placing bets in no time. Unlike most other betting sites, the Bet365 website covers your entire screen giving you a much more comprehensive view.
Bet365 Mobile Experience
Like the desktop site, the Bet365 app and mobile site also cram a lot of information onto the screen – which takes a little getting used to. The horizontal scrolling navigation at the top of your screen features large coloured icons which makes it easy to pick your betting market of choice and once you’ve navigated to your chosen sport or racing type, it’s very easy to find your desired market and place a bet.

9. Palmerbet
Another true blue punting option, Palmerbet has been owned and operated down under since 2013. Offering a slick betting experience, backed by great odds and a healthy range of markets, Palmerbet certainly punches above their weight when compared to some of the more well known betting sites in Australia. Despite coming from a racing heritage, sports focussed punters aren’t left out, with plenty of standard and exotic markets available across popular Aussie sports – including their famous $1.95 lines on AFL & NRL games.
Palmerbet Website Experience
Anyone who’s previously used a betting site will feel instantly at home on the Palmerbet website, with a very familiar 3 panel layout. Small touches, like being able to quickly differentiate racing from sports markets via uniform blue and green icons are nicely done, and clicking through the site you’ll notice how fast the site loads. Beyond that, whilst there’s nothing particularly notable about the Palmerbet website experience, both experienced and casual punters alike will find it simple and straightforward to use.
Palmerbet Mobile Experience
Like most Aussie betting sites, the mobile version and app is where they really shine. PalmerBet offers a simple, no fuss betting experience on mobile devices that new and experienced punters will enjoy. Like the desktop site, there’s nothing revolutionary about it – however it’s simplicity is one of it’s greatest selling points for us; making it very fast and easy to load up your bet slip and pull the trigger.
Palmerbet
Palmerbet
If you’re not fussed about all the bells and whistles, Palmerbet is a very attractive option for punters looking to bet on horses, dogs and popular sports like the NBA, EPL, AFL and Cricket.

10. BlueBet
Up next is another Australian owned and operated betting site; BlueBet. Having launched in 2015, BlueBet has attracted many loyal punters thanks to their very competitive racing odds, including best tote + SP odds for all thoroughbred races in Australia in addition to generous fixed odds and exotics like quinellas, exactas, trifectas, first fours and quaddies.BlueBet also offers a decent range of markets across all 22 sports (correct at time of writing), however you won’t find some of the more niche sports betting markets as you do on some of the larger betting sites reviewed here.
BlueBet Website Experience
Unlike most other of our top Australian betting sites, BlueBet makes full use of the entire laptop or computer screen, which affords enough spacing between sections to not feel overwhelming – especially for new punters.. Both Same Race & Same Game Multi enabled events are clearly identifiable by icons making it very easy to find opportunities to chase some value with a multi bet. BlueBet now offers live streaming via Racing.com – however streaming is limited to Victorian Thoroughbred racing only at the time of writing.
BlueBet Mobile Experience
Having recently launched a brand new app, BlueBet has taken their mobile betting experience to a new level. Their app is now lighting fast and boasts one of the most user friendly designs we’ve seen on the Australian market – this all amounts to a very slick mobile betting experience that is sure to please punters of all experience levels. ‘Bluey’s Tip’s (also available on desktop) provides valuable insights for casual punters, that is quite often on the money.
Verdict – One of our favourite betting sites with the added bonus of being Aussie owned and operated. Limited live streaming will be a turn off for some, but if that’s not high up on your priority list then it’s hard to go past BlueBet.

11. WinnersBet
Having only launched in mid 2020, there’s plenty to like about WinnersBet! Completely Australian owned and operated, WinnersBet doesn’t yet offer the same range of markets for sports betting as some of the more established players, but provides a genuine alternative for horse racing enthusiasts with high fixed odds plus Best Tote on all Australian races, Best of the Best odds and protest payout offers.
WinnersBet Website Thoughts
The first thing you notice on the WinnersBet site is that racing takes centre stage with two thirds of the screen taken up by racing events. You’ll have to scroll to find available sport types to bet on, which only amounts to 12 at the time of writing – however all of the Aussie favourites like AFL, NRL, Cricket, Basketball & Soccer are covered. Overall though, you’ll find the WinnersBet site very easy to navigate and place a bet no matter what your betting experience level.
WinnersBet Mobile Experience
At the time of writing – WinnersBet doesn’t offer a mobile app – however you can still have a bet from your mobile via their mobile site which is more than up to the job. They also provide a handy ‘how to guide’ for adding their mobile site as an icon on your mobile which makes it just as convenient and fast to place a bet.
Verdict – Whether you’re looking for a new bookmaker, or just getting started, WinnersBet offers healthy odds and a no fuss betting experience – although Avid punters may be turned off by the absence of live streaming.

12. BoomBet
Having been in operation in Australia since 1998, Sportsbetting.com.au was forced into rebanding to Boombet in 2021 after a trademark dispute was lodged by rival Sportsbet. However, despite the name change, BoomBet continues to offer great odds, market leading customer service and a no fuss betting experience. Thoroughbred, Harness & Greyhound racing is very well covered – with all the exotics you’d expect from a top betting site and all major sporting leagues are also catered for (although in game markets are somewhat limited compared to the bigger operators).
BoomBet Website Experience
The rebrand to BoomBet also brought with it a significant upgrade to their website, which now is right up there alongside the big players in terms of design and ease of use. The Next To Jump feature across the top of the screen is one of the best on the market, and can quickly be filtered by racing type which is a handy little feature. Despite being a relatively small player in the Australian market, Boombet offers one of the easiest online betting experiences on laptop and desktop computers.
BoomBet Mobile Thoughts
BoomBet backs up their impressive website experience with a rock solid mobile site and app. Navigating between sports and races is extremely fast, and the contrasting colour scheme helps to quickly find the links and buttons you’re looking for. The bottom menu (similar to Ladbrokes, Neds, WinnersBet & Playup) is also a welcome addition, allowing for fast and easy navigation.
Verdict – Don’t be fooled by the unfamiliar name – BoomBet are a well established Aussie owned and operated betting site that’s definitely worth signing up to.

Whether you’re just looking to have a one off bet on the Melbourne Cup, the fan in the stand planning on making the entire footy season that little bit more interesting or an avid fantasy football fan wanting to place real world online wager – we’ve made it easy to pick the right online bookmaker for your needs. When we used all of the below betting agencies, we've compared them based on the following criteria:
Criteria | Methodology |
---|---|
Ease of Use | We believe that a quality betting agency should be intuitively designed so that everyone from first timers through to experienced punters can quickly and easily place their bets. There’s nothing worse than missing the jump while you struggle to navigate your bet slip! |
Odds | Not all Australian betting sites offer the same odds. By going with an online betting agency that consistently offers strong odds, you’ll enjoy greater returns on your winners. Want to know who has the best odds? We’ve done the research for you – keep reading. |
Customer Support | If you’re going to part (hopefully only temporarily) with your hard earned money, you deserve to be supported with first class customer service. We only recommend betting sites with healthy reputations when it comes to customer support. |
Promotions | Whilst it’s now illegal for Australian betting sites to offer sign up bonuses to new customers, you’ll still find a range of promos available on most betting sites upon signing up. Our recommended sites consistently offer value for their customers. |
Deposit & Withdrawal Options | The best betting sites in Australia offer a range of deposit options including Paypal, Debit Cards, Credit Cards & more. When it comes time to collect your winnings, it’s important to choose a betting site that offers fast withdrawals with low cashout minimum amounts. |
Insights & Tips | There are over 19,000 thoroughbred races held in Australia every year so keeping track of what horses are in form can be near impossible for the average punter. Best Betting Promotions Australia
Whilst inducements (promotional sign up offers) in the form of sign up bonuses and matched deposits are now illegal in Australia, betting sites in Australia are still able to offer promotions to registered users. Some of the most common betting promos you’ll find include:
Money Back / Stake Returns
One of the most popular betting promotions you’ll find on Australian betting sites, money back bets often involve the bookie returning your stake as bonus bet credits if your bet narrowly fails – for example if your horse runs second or your sports team loses by a close margin.
Early Payout
Early payout offers involve placing a bet on the full time outcome of a sporting event and if your selection is leading by a pre-determined amount, the betting site will pay you out as a winner, regardless of the final result.
Boosted Odds
Many of the best betting sites available in Australia will offer members a set amount opportunities per day to increase the odds on a racing or sports event. The increase in odds varies from betting site to betting site but is often in the range of 5% to 25%. These are great for adding value into shorter priced horses and teams.
Early Cash Out
Cash out refers to when betting sites offer you a reduced payout on your multi bet before all legs have been completed. These can be useful if you’ve successfully predicted multiple results but get cold feet and want to take your money and run.
Racing Refunds
Essentially the same as a Money Back bet, racing refunds involves the amount you bet, up to a specified limit, being returned to you in the form of a bonus bet or bet credit if your horse places 2nd, 3rd or 4th.
Protest Payouts
If the horse you bet on wins the race but then gets relegated due to an upheld protest, you’ll still get paid out as a winner.
